Downtown Businesses
- 14 E. 14 Mile (former Avery Hasler location) received conditional site plan approval from the Planning Commission, at the May 28 meeting, for exterior improvements to the building. The first floor will be occupied by Satellite which is expanding from a successful food truck. operation. The second floor will be office space for a tech company.
- 143 E. 14 Mile, build out is underway for a small bar named The Loc@l. All commercial spaces in the Clawsonion building (ACE development) are now leased
- 204 E. 14 Mile, Cloverleaf Pizza has closed and that property is now for lease. Originally closed for a management change but then decided to close the Clawson location
- 150 N. Main; (PNC property) There is no change on the status of the project. The developers presented the project to Council at the May 21 Council meeting for feedback on the proposed Planned Unit Development. It will return to Council for consideration of approval at a date not yet determined. A Letter of Support from the DDA has been sent to Council.
- 172 E. 14 Mile (former Burger King) site plan has been approved for a multi-use development and engineering plans have been submitted and are currently under review.

Main Street
- National Conference in Alabama, the DDA set a budget of $1800. Trip cost was $1223.30. Main Street Oakland County provided $500 for trip expenses so the total cost to the DDA was $723.30
- The DDA has again met the standards and criteria to be awarded standing as a National Main Street Community. An award presentation before Council is to be scheduled.
Other News
- Funding has been provided by the Clawson Foundation for two checkerboard tables to be placed downtown. The concrete tables proposed were not available for 10 weeks so the order was changed to two larger 46″ 4-seat tables. The material is polyethelene coated open weave metal with powder coated frames in the color black. The tables have been received and will soon be placed on locations on S. Main.
- The Planning Commission at their July 23 meeting agreed to move the Downtown Master Plan Update forward for a Public Hearing to be scheduled on August 13
Streetscape News
- Our thanks to volunteers Kathy Phillips and Carol McLean for shopping, selecting and planting the flowers in the downtown planters. Great job!
- Our thanks also to the DPW for weeding and cleaning up all of the planting beds. Much improved and appreciated
- Grasses were lost in two in-ground beds on the north side of E. 14, in front of Fair-Way, and need to be replaced. The DDA has purchased new grasses and DPW will plant as schedule allows
- DPW will be moving benches to help the DDA create better seating groupings. Not all are moved. There will still be stand alone benches throughout the downtown.
Events
- The Open Air Faire in May enjoyed a great day with over 50 vendors and we look forward to growing even more next year
- Cinema in the Street was a hit for its 16th year. Our thanks to the many on-screen advertisers that make the cinema possible and the businesses that sponsored, set-up and supervised the pre-movie games. This event is provided solely through the generosity of our business community.
