Downtown Businesses

  • 172 E. 14 Mile, former Burger King site, received site plan approval from the Planning Commission for a multi-use commercial & residential development. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring.
  • 41 E. 14 Mile received site plan approval from the Planning Commission for the restyling of White Wolf/ Noble Fish into Noble Village which spans three storefronts including the former Flipside Records.
  • The downtown has welcomed three new businesses
    • 141 E. 14 Mile; Dr.  Bruce Millman, Pulmomary  & Critical Care Medicine
    • 145 E. 14 Mile; Exclusive Nails
    • 247 E. 14 Mile; Mada Hair Salon
  • 278 E. 14 Mile, Old Port Restaurant, has submitted a site plan for facade improvement
  • The Yarn Stop, 25 S. Main, owner Sam Gill has made the difficult decision to close the business. Classes & social hours will continue and have a Facebook page named Friends of The Yarn Stop
  • Let’s Art About It, 36 E. 14 Mile, has changed the business format and no longer needs a storefront for the business
  • 76-84 W. 14 Mile (former Lim’s), has been leased to PanDeMonium, a restaurant specializing in Filipino food.

  • 400 S. Main has a current building permit – potential Loaded Dice brewery location

  • Clawson Manor, 255 E. 14 Mile; (senior high rise); renovations continue and project remains on schedule
  • 436-456 W. 14 Mile, plans have been approved by Planning Commission for an apartment development

Main Street

  • The awarding of the Revitalization and Placemaking Program (RAP) grants were announced by the Michigan Economic Development Corp (MEDC) and, unfortunately neither Clawson, nor the other Main Street communities, submitted in the Oakland County package were selected.
  • There was a workshop for the Downtown Master Plan Update on Monday, October 23 at 8am at Downtown Charlies, 28 S. Main. Planners and DDA members met to discuss and finalize the draft prior to the public input.

Grant follow ups

  • Pedestrian crossing signal update: AEW is having a structural engineer view the island signal base, as requested by the Road Commission, following the auto colliding with the base earlier this year
  • Alley Heart Artwork: Miss Dig has marked the site. Artwork will be installed once the fabricator completes the final two pole base supports.

  • Small Business Saturday is November 25. Clawson Downtown Dollars support our local businesses and make great gifts. Watch for promotions!

Committee Reports
Events

  • Trick or Treasure and the Great Pubkin Crawl enjoyed good weather and attendance for both events on Saturday, October 28.
    • Trick or Treasure had participation from over 50 downtown businesses. The Clawson DDA, Fire Department, Police and others rounded out the event treat-giving stations to satisfy the crowd of young trick or treaters.
    • The Great Pubkin Crawl sent 120 participants out to complete contests & games with stops at Three Cats, Mojave Cantina, Detroit Burger Bar, Renshaw Lounge, Zeoli’s, Weiss Distillery, Tavern on the Main, Downtown Charlie’s and Whiskey Taco Foxtrot while also enjoying food and drink specials.

Landscaping

  • Volunteers planted Fall mums in the street corner planters
  • The DDA has purchased new holiday decor for the clock tower and to decorate Santa’s sleigh. Options and pricing for updating the lighting on the streetlights is also under consideration.
