Downtown Businesses

  • Businesses enjoyed a successful and busy St. Patrick’s Day weekend. A strong & growing restaurant base continues to add vibrancy to the downtown
  • 10 S. Main (former Hips); has been leased to the gift shop Down the Rabbit Hole. Downtown Clawson will be their second store, joining the Canturbury Village location. We’re delighted to welcome another growing small business!
  • Dairy-O has changed ownership back to the Danhausen family. Daughter Sage Danhausen is the new business owner and has planned opening day for Friday, April 5. Mark your calendars and show support for this first time entrepreneur.
  • 220 S. Main, House of BBQ, has begun the process of applying for a Redevelopment Liquor License.
  • 150 N. Main; (PNC property) Developers received Planning Commission recommendation for a Planned Unit Development for a multi-use 3-story development. It will now go to Council for approval.

 Commercial construction projects continue in and around the downtown

  • 400 S. Main continues renovation for potential Loaded Dice brewery location
  • 516 N. Main; townhome development building
  • 436-456 W. 14 Mile, construction is planned to begin in the Spring for an apartment development.
  • 172 W. 14 Mile (former Burger King) construction is planned to begin in the Spring for a 3-story multi-use development – 2 floors of apartment units and retail or restaurant at the ground level

Main Street

  • A budget has been approved for attendance at the National Main Street Conference, May 6-8 in Birmingham, AL

Grant follow ups

  • Pedestrian crossing signal update: City engineering firm, AEW, the signal base repair and install of the High-Intensity crossWalk (HAWK) signal bid has been awarded

Landscaping

Budget was approved for annual flowers and for three additional planters from EarthPlanter which will be placed on the corner with the clock.

  • We are happy to welcome Barb’s Pasties & Pizza into the Downtown Neighbor program. Barb’s, at 610 S. Main, has a 30-year history in Clawson and we’re delighted to have them as a Neighbor.
  • Downtown Clawson Dollars & Brick Buy Brick (engraved downtown brick program) are available on downtownclawson.com. Information is found under the Opportunities tab on the website or click on the logos on the left side of the home page.
  • We are inviting the public to an Open House on Wednesday, April 24 for input and ideas on the look and feel of the downtown. We want your thoughts on additional seating, events, storefronts. Anything and everything that helps to make our downtown a great place and how to make it better. The place is the Community Room at City Hall from 10a-2p and 4p-7p. Stop in share your ideas. Have you seen something in another downtown you’d like to see here? Let us know. There are no wrong ideas.
