Downtown Businesses

  • 150 N. Main; (PNC property) The developers presented the project to Council at the May 21 Council meeting for feedback on the proposed Planned Unit Development. It will return to Council for consideration of approval at a later date. A Letter of Support from the DDA has been sent to Council.
  • 14 E. 14 Mile (former Avery Hasler location) received conditional site plan approval from the Planning Commission, at the May 28 meeting, for exterior improvements to the building. The first floor will be occupied by Satellite which is expanding from a successful food truck operation. The second floor will be office space for a tech company.
  • 204 E. 14 Mile, Cloverleaf Pizza, is temporarily closed during a management change.
  • Down the Rabbit Hole, 10 S. Main, was officially welcomed with a ribbon cutting on May 3
  • Both Grand River Brewery and Gus’s Snug Irish Pub have received their social district licenses from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
  • All commercial spaces in the Clawsonion building (ACE development) are now leased with 143 E. 14 Mile soon to become a small bar by the name of The Loc@l

 Commercial construction projects continue in and around the downtown

  • 502 S. Main (C & C Bump Shop)
    400 S. Main continues renovation for potential Loaded Dice brewery location
  • 516 N. Main; townhome development building
  • 436-456 W. 14 Mile, construction is planned to begin in the Spring for an apartment development.
  • 172 W. 14 Mile (former Burger King) has an approved site plan for a 3-story multi-use development – 2 floors of apartment units and retail or restaurant at the ground level

Main Street

       Downtown Master Plan Update

  • A special meeting of the DDA is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 at 8am to review & discuss the draft of the Downtown Master Plan Update. The plan will be on the agenda for the June 19 regular DDA meeting for vote.

Summary of the DDA Open House

  • There were 25 participants, mostly newer residents with the majority having taken the survey for the master plan update
  • Movie choices were available for vote; Dave, Crocodile Dundee, The Rookie and My Cousin Vinnie. There were a few write ins but of the choices presented there was a split between The Rookie and My Cousin Vinnie. Movie choices will be posted on social media for additional input.
  • There was positive interest in slower traffic on 14 Mile with potential lane closures, increased parking and improved pedestrian safety

Other News

Funding has been provided by the Clawson Foundation for two concrete checkerboard tables to be placed downtown. These were proposed in the Community for A Lifetime plan submission and will be onsite this summer.

Streetscape News

  • Our thanks to volunteers Kathy Phillips and Carol McLean for shopping, selecting and planting the flowers in the downtown planters. Great job!
  • Our thanks also to the DPW for weeding and cleaning up all of the planting beds. Much improved and appreciated

 Volunteer Opportunity

  • Walk in the 4th of July parade along with the Cinema in the Street vehicle with flyers for the event. It’s a fun time and great advertising for the Cinema
  • Help set up and monitor the pre-movie games on Cinema night – Saturday, July 13
